As Doctor Who gets ready to celebrate its 60th anniversary, Jodie Whittaker will be bidding farewell to her role. David Tennant will be returning for the anniversary special episodes and alongside him would also be Ncuti Gatwa who will be taking over as the Doctor. Fans have been waiting patiently for any upcoming news and lucky for them, the wait is over.
The franchise seems to be working on another spin-off of the series after Torchwood became a massive hit with the character of Jack Harkness. This new spin-off will include none other than Kate Stewart. Whittaker’s version of the Doctor had not been very well received initially but now the case is completely different. In fact, her interaction with Jemma Redgrave made fans so happy that UNIT will be returning once again.
Doctor Who To Get A Spin-off With Jemma Redgrave
UNIT was first introduced in Doctor Who back in 1968 and since then has been an essential part of the series. While the revival series only saw UNIT’s return in the fourth season with David Tennant’s Doctor. The task force did have mentions previously though. Jemma Redgrave made her appearance as Kate Stewart in the Doctor Who special The Day of the Doctor as the Head of Scientific Research.
Redgrave worked alongside Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi as well as Jodie Whittaker. Now she will be starring in her own spin-off as Stewart and fighting against aliens when the Doctor is off-world. The series has always been commended for its strong and natural portrayal of women in power. From Rose Tyler, and Clara Oswald to the Doctor themself, there has been no shortage of strong female figures. Especially because even as their companions, they always have a bigger role to play than that of a side character. Russel T Davies will be looking into the spin-off and bringing to life UNIT as the fans have been waiting to see.
