Black Panther actor, Winston Duke, who played the role of M’Baku in the movie has expressed in an interview that his character has since then changed significantly and may not be just a side character in the upcoming Black Panther: Wakanda Forever movie.
Apart from this, the actor also gave some insights into the character’s development in MCU and the kind of trouble he will be helping our lead heroes fight.
M’Baku And His Role In MCU
The leader of the Jabari Tribe in Wakanda (a group of Wakandans who isolated themselves away from the rest of the nation), Lord M’Baku was initially introduced as a rival of King T’Challa who wanted nothing more than to dethrone him and take his place as the true ruler of Wakanda.
Although he fails to do so when he gets defeated by T’Challa during his coronation, he ends up doing a lot more for the king later on into the movie; especially after T’Challa gets (presumably) killed by his own cousin, N’Jadaka or Erik Killmonger.

Later in the movie, it is revealed that M’Baku was the one who saved T’Challa’s life when he was fatally attacked by Killmonger. He also fought alongside the King in his battle to take back his throne from Eric Killmonger and then one more time during the battle fought on Wakandian grounds against Marvel supervillain, Thanos.
M’Baku’s Contribution to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Winston Duke, the actor who plays M’Baku in Marvel’s 2018 movie, Black Panther starring late Chadwick Boseman as the lead, had given some insights into the role of his character in the upcoming Marvel movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Discussing the change in character M’Baku goes through not only after the battle with Thanos but during it too, Winston Duke confesses,
“I think the events of Infinity War and Endgame really showed that the Jabari are now full-fledged members of Wakanda.”
“M’Baku was a part of every single conflict; every event, and I don’t think they could really exist in isolation anymore. They have open borders, and we saw that M’Baku was really Wakandan. His entire community has expanded.”
Apart from this character development, there has also been the revelation that the character of Namor The Sub-Mariner will also make its first appearance in the upcoming Black Panther 2 movie.
The character’s existence was first hinted in Marvel’s 2010 movie, Iron Man 2. Namor is the King Of Atlantis (and a mutant) who rules the underseas.
According to Winston Duke, M’Baku will play a great role in the battle with this character as well.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will premiere on November 11, 2022.
