Despite all the hate and backlash from the audiences, Star Wars: Episode VIII presented some incomparable visual sequences. The frames are gorgeous and deliver some of the most breathtaking scenes in the franchise. One of the most beautiful scenes in the movie was Mark Hamill and the late Carrie Fisher’s “No one’s ever really gone” which left many fans with teary eyes.

Mark Hamill’s kiss to Carrie Fisher in The Last Jedi was unscripted

There are many instances where projects saw their lead stars improvising the scenes to add their touch to the scenes. In some instances, these scenes even went on to be better than what was planned in the script. Something similar also occurred during the filming of the second Star Wars film in the Sequel Trilogy.

The scene in Star Wars: Episode VIII

One of the rarest points that earned praise for Star Wars: Episode VIII was the little moment between Mark Hamill‘s Luke Skywalker and General Leia Organa. In this particular scene, Luke says “No one’s ever really gone” and bids goodbye to Leia giving a kiss on her forehead. According to Hamill, the kiss was improvised and the makers were just surprised by how beautiful it looked, thereby requesting him to do it again.

“I don’t know if we rehearsed it or not, it just happened. I was standing up and they weren’t ready for it and they said “no, do that again” and we did it for a second take. It was just spontaneous. It was really momentous for me because Luke was saying goodbye to his sister forever.”

It was indeed a very emotional scene for Mark Hamill as Carrie Fisher sadly passed away after filming the movie. The actors were even known to like each other very much after it was revealed that they made love with each other on the sets of Star Wars: A New Hope. But they didn’t proceed to any relationship and as per the 71-year-old actor, over time, they turned out to be like real-life siblings.

In the same interview with Entertainment Tonight, Mark Hamill revealed that the scene holds far more value to him. He loved his co-star and Fisher’s loss can never be fulfilled by anybody.

“I can’t watch that scene. It takes me out of the movie completely. I’ll get over it but she’ll be forever missed and she’s irreplaceable.”

The voice of Joker also admitted in several other interviews that he and the late actress were totally over each other. But Hamill didn’t want to proceed to any relationship as he learnt from his experiences to not get romantically involved with anyone from the set.

On the other hand, the Kingsman: The Secret Service actor also came to know later that Carrie Fisher was also in a serious relationship with co-star Harrison Ford. Mark Hamill came to know it very late from George Lucas’ then-wife. As per the actor, he was glad to know it later as prior knowledge could have affected him as well as his performance badly.
