The directors of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, have spilled some beans. The duo has disclosed how Hollywood superstar Jackie Chan inspired their new fantasy adventure film. During an interview with Collider, Goldstein shed some light on the process of orchestrating action sequences in the film.

How Jackie Chan Inspired The Film’s Action Sequences
Goldstein expressed his dislike towards close-up shots and quick cuts that hamper the viewer’s ability to perceive the action taking place. He said,
“The other thing we did when we approached the action sequences was, it’s sort of a pet peeve of ours when it’s all very close and quick cuts, and you can’t really tell what’s going on.”
The filmmakers chose to go ahead with wider shots to avoid quick cuts. However, capturing such imagery required skillful execution and intricate choreography. Daley revealed that Jackie Chan’s films gave them the inspiration to pull off clear and visible action sequences.
“And so, we made the decision to shoot it as wide as we could, which requires more of the actors, the stunt team because you have to really choreograph all those moves because you’re going to actually see it play out.” Daley added, “We drew a lot of inspiration from Jackie Chan, actually, and his films because you can see what he’s doing. You can see the expertise required to pull off some of those stunts, and that was our mandate with our stunt team, our Bulgarians, and they made it sexual but brutal.”
How Did Actors Prepare For Their Roles In The Film
In the film, Chris Pine plays the charming bard Edgin, who teams up with Justice Smith’s Simon the Sorcerer, Sophia Lillis’ Doric the shapeshifting druid, Regé-Jean Page’s Xenk the Paladin, and Michelle Rodriguez’s barbarian Holga Kilgore.
This group of heroes embarks on a mission to put an end to Red Sorcerers’ nefarious plans. Not just him, the squad is also faced with the former rogue Forge Fitzwilliam, who has become a political heavyweight. Hugh Grant plays the character.
Chris Pine also expressed his fondness for playing the part of a bard, describing his character did not require much preparation. “I love being a bard so much….No preparation. Lots of smiling,” Pine said.
Chris Pine Hits Back At Co-star Regé-Jean Page
Regé-Jean Page referred to Chris Pine’s character in the film as a “horny bard.” Pine quickly responded to his co-star’s comment and explained that his character in the film is more about enthusiasm rather than being a “horndog.”
“It’s a very specific word.” He continued, “For whom I would be horny, don’t know. It’s my best friend, I have an elf and I have, you know — not a lot of horndog stuff happening in this, pal. I think it’s enthusiasm, it’s positivity, [and] it’s party playing.”
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves hit the silver screens on 31st March and is receiving a great response from the audience.
