Jonathan Majors is a prominent name in the entertainment industry and plays an important role in the MCU. The actor plays the role of Kang the Conquerer and was most recently seen in the movie Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in 2023. He was also part of the Disney+ show Loki. Kang is a prominent villain in the Marvel world, and more of him is expected to be seen in upcoming MCU movies.
However, the recent Major’s domestic violence case has put a prominent question mark on his future with the Marvel projects.
Jonathan Major’s controversy
Creed 3 actor Jonathan Majors has found himself in legal trouble following the assault, strangulation, and harassment charges. The actor was arrested in Manhattan a few days ago by the New York Police Department. The legal team of Majors is led by attorney Priya Chaudhary, and she claims that he is innocent. She also released text messages allegedly sent by the victim to Majors. The texts say that it was not an attack, and Choudhary disputed the strangulation charges. The actor was arrested as per mandatory arrest laws in the context of domestic abuse cases in New York.
Jonathan Majors’ future in Marvel Cinematic Universe
The domestic violence case had a massive impact on the impression and profile of Jonathan Majors. The first blow came when the US Army pulled the ads featuring the actor, due to the arrest and ongoing investigation. This move has also led to a train of thoughts regarding the future of Jonathan Majors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor plays the role of Kang The Conquerer in the MCU and was last seen in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. As per future projects, he is supposed to be part of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, both will feature Kang as the main antagonist. Taking his character out of the MCU will be a very difficult task, hence, it has left fans wondering about the future of Kang.
A fan asked on social media,
“Do you know anything about Jonathan Majors getting the boot from Marvel?”
Another Twitter user replied,
“Marvel has a really good relationship with Majors, they’re waiting for this to play out and see what public opinion evolves into.
Also, they legally can’t boot him from any project he’s signed on to – they will have to negotiate/settle an agreement with his team.”
As per the laws, the MCU producers cannot boot Majors from any upcoming project he has already signed. However, if the actor is found guilty, then there is a high chance that Kang may be recast. Marvel has recast roles for others in the past and can also do them again for this case if needed. Kang is a key character in connecting the dots between the next two Avengers movies. Hence, Marvel might be forced to make a smart decision to avoid further backlash. Also to be noted, Marvel met Majors’ representatives after his arrest, but there is no clarity on Kang’s position in the MCU.
