After her public lawsuit against ex-Johnny Depp and her subsequent loss, Amber Heard will make her comeback on the big screen with Aquaman 2 the movie. The movie is slated to hit the theaters in December, this year. DC is having a tough year. Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Blue Beetle, and especially The Flash have all seen a poor result at the box office in 2023. And, now they have Aquaman 2 in hand.
Nevertheless, despite being a much-anticipated sequel, there has been no press tour, no marketing, and not even a trailer from DC, which is somewhat unexpected if not worrisome. They recently just put out a brief teaser for the full trailer.
Amber Heard’s Aquaman 2 is not Getting Marketing Attention from DCU
After a prolonged production process and multiple postponements, the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is finally scheduled for release in theaters in December. However, DC fans are thinking why the studio is not giving proper attention to the promotion of the movie.
A Twitter user going by the handle KC Walsh responded to a fan’s query by claiming that James Gunn and Warner Bros. don’t plan to spend a lot of money marketing the film since they know it will fail.
Some moviegoers think this might be an attempt to protect the film from negative reviews, similar to what happened with The Flash and the recently released Blue Beetle. Interestingly, the production budget for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is reportedly more than $200 million.
Amber Heard is Excited about Aquaman 2
In January 2023, James Gunn and Aquaman producer Peter Safran announced a new slate of films and TV shows that will effectively reboot the universe but left out a third Aquaman movie.
Amber Heard who is playing Mera in the sequel is very much excited about her new movie. While speaking to Deadline on the sideline of the Taormina Film Festival in Taormina, Italy, Heard spoke about Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
“Oh, of course,” Heard said when asked if she was excited about Aquaman 2.
“There’s a ton of pressure on these big franchise movies, with millions and millions of dollars at stake, and compromises are part of trying to make it the most successful thing it can be…Aquaman, that franchise and the machinery behind it, I’m very honored, honored to be a part of that,” she added.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom hit theaters on December 20, 2023.
