Gender disparity in pay has been a relevant topic ever since the early days of Hollywood. Sienna Miller, the star of G.I. Joe shared her experience when a broadway executive had told her to “f–k off” when she went to ask for equal pay.
The actress also revealed that the late actor Chadwick Boseman had helped the actress out of his profits as the producer when they had shared the screen together.
Sienna Miller Spoke Up About The Gender Wage Gap
Sienna Miller is an American-British actress known for various movies and series. The actress has worked alongside Bradley Cooper in American Sniper (2014) and is currently associated with Anatomy of a Scandal (2022). The G.I. Joe actress shared her experience of the gender pay disparity that had been rooted in the early seeds of Hollywood.
Speaking to Miller Vogue, the actress stated that she was once told to “f–k off” by an “extremely powerful” broadway executive during her early days of play in New York City.
“I said to the producer, who was extremely powerful, it’s not about money — it’s about fairness and respect, thinking they’d come back and say, ‘Of course, of course.’ But they didn’t, they just said, ‘Well f–k off then.’”
Sienna Miller also stated that she felt extremely embarrassed following the incident and that she had to ask the executive for more money but the unfairness had indeed taken place with the actress. She later described this incident as one of the “pivotal moments” in her life as she realized that she had every right to be equally subsidized for the work that she would have done.
When Chadwick Boseman Helped Sienna Miller With Her Pay
Sienna Miller and Chadwick Boseman shared the screen together when 21 Bridges was released in 2019. Following the death of the Black Panther actor, Miller conveyed her deepest sympathies and revealed that Chadwick Boseman had helped her during the disparity pay in 21 Bridges.
Chadwick Boseman took a pay cut from his salary so that Sienna Miller might get her pay equivalent to the actor. The Lost City of Z actress described the move as “extraordinary” and continued,
“That kind of thing just doesn’t happen,” she continued. “It’s just unfathomable to imagine another man in that town behaving that graciously or respectfully…There was no showiness, it was, ‘Of course, I’ll get you to that number because that’s what you should be paid.’”
Chadwick Boseman was untimely taken away from this mortal world in the year 2020 when the actor, aged 43, lost the battle to cancer. Sienna Miller was last seen as Sophie Whitehouse in Anatomy of a Scandal (2022) and though the limited series was a huge hit with the audiences, Netflix denied a second season.
Anatomy of a Scandal is available to stream on Netflix.
