After Loki disappeared into the Multiverse following the story in Avengers: Endgame, Marvel decided to release the beloved character’s own personal series, Loki. And while season 1 of the series received much love from fans worldwide, the TV series director found herself surrounded by controversy over the unforeseen budding romance between Tom Hiddleston’s and Sophia di Martino’s characters.
Although apart from this, fans were truly content with the God of Mischief’s series’ storyline, they just couldn’t digest their favorite character’s romance with someone like Sylvie, thus rallying all over social media, strictly against it. And now, director Kate Herron too has spoken up on the matter to shut down the Loki-Sylvie incest controversy.
Fans Were Outraged At Sylki Romance In Loki Season 1 (2021)
All this outrage from fans started following the budding romance between Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston, and Sylvie, played by Sophia di Martino in Loki Season 1, both Multiverse variants, which ended up with the pair embracing each other in the season’s finale episode. Reacting to the romance as sickening, one fan posted to Twitter:
“i literally looked away when sylvie kissed loki it was disgusting yikes ew naur i almost gagged. i know sylvie was trying to deceive loki so she could get him out of the way but still. yikes”
Another infuriated fan took to the platform to tweet:
“who ever at marvel wrote that sylki kiss better count their days #loki”
One other fan even posted how they were willing to believe the kiss between them didn’t happen in the first place to escape the ickiness inflicted by the scene:
“me trying to convince myself the sylvie loki kiss didn’t happen”
Not just this, even TVA Agent Mobius, played by Owen Wilson, raised voices against this unforeseen romance following the touching moment the pair shared in the season’s episode 4. He said,
“Two variants of the same being, especially you, forming this kind of sick, twisted romantic relationship? That’s pure chaos! That could break reality.”
Although director Kate Herron refrained from commenting on these comments at first, she seems to have finally broken her silence on the controversy following their twisted romance.

Director Kate Herron Responds To Loki-Sylvie Romance Hate Controversies
Responding to all the backlash from fans all over social media over the pair’s romance being one of incest, Kate Herron finally spoke out on the topic in an interview. Claiming she was hesitant to weigh on the matter at first, she said,
“I follow all the conversations on Twitter. I don’t always weigh in on them, because I made the show, so they don’t want me weighing in like, ‘Actually, guys…’ I think that’s the whole point of art. It should be up for debate and discussion.”
She furthermore claimed that she doesn’t see Tom Hiddleston and Sophia di Martino’s characters as brother and sister despite them being the same variants in the Multiverse.
“My interpretation of it is that they’re both Lokis, but they aren’t the same person. I don’t see them as being like brother and sister. They have completely different backgrounds. I think that’s really important to her character. They sort of have the same role in terms of the universe and destiny, but they won’t make the same decisions.”
Nevertheless, the chaos and havoc following this twisted and controversial budding romance seem to have died down a little after the news of Season 2 of the series premiering on Disney+ in October this year surfaced.
You can stream Loki season 1 on Disney+ Hotstar.
