“There’s no longevity in one character”: Elizabeth Olsen, Who Publicly Criticized Marvel’s Unfair Contract, Beats Herself Up For Lack Of Non MCU Movies In Her Career

It’s true when they say that playing a character or doing a role in the film industry for a prolonged period of time would certainly boost your recognition and solidify your career in the history books if you did well. In recent times, the best proof of that phenomenon is Elizabeth Olsen, who will forever be known as Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a, the Scarlet Witch in the film industry due to her association with Marvel Studios through this character.

Therefore, many stars hope to one day get a chance to work with the cinematic juggernaut and establish themselves as a certified name in the list of top stars in the industry. But on the contrary, it seems as though Olsen, after playing her character for almost a decade, is now willing to step back from her MCU fame and start fresh in the industry by diversifying her career.

Whether you like it or not, no one today can deny the fact that the biggest film stars in the world at this time are stars who brought themselves to that position from the MCU or have joined up with the cinematic universe. And one of the biggest names in the franchise is none other than Elizabeth Olsen, who plays the integral role of The Scarlet Witch in the MCU. Therefore, it seemed a little off that the role that virtually built her career is the one the actress is now trying to separate herself from to diversify in the film industry.

In a recent interview, the Wind River star talked about how playing just one character for a very long period of time may help build your recognition in the short run but make your career look one-dimensional in the long run. Therefore, it’s also necessary that an actor or actress should keep their portfolio as diverse as possible to receive more opportunities from the business and also grow as a film star. She said:

“I’m trying to figure out… Because, specifically in the last four years, my output has been Marvel, I don’t want… it’s not that I don’t want to be associated as just this character. But I really feel like I need to be building other parts back up for balance. I so much want to do films right now. And I hope some of them come together in the way I feel like they can. But yeah, that’s something that I need. I just need other characters in my life. There’s no longevity in one character.”

Therefore, taking an objective approach towards her career, it seems like Olsen would now be following through with her plan, which also means we will be seeing her outside the MCU a lot.
