Baldur’s Gate 3 released in August of 2023 to great acclaim from both critics and fans alike. Developed by Larian Studios, who are also known for similar games such as the Divinity series, it is a role playing game (RPG) with party elements. The game received tremendous praise for its story, gameplay, sheer amount of content, customization and player freedom, in the process becoming a commercial success as well.

However, the game wasn’t quite perfect, with their being issues with a number of bugs, glitches and performance issues, particularly in the third act of Baldur’s Gate 3. There was also some controversy and speculation regarding the content which was cut from the final version of the game. There’s one bug in particular which many fans have enjoyed and taken advantage off, and the bug in question makes it too easy for players to have s*x with other characters.
How did the bug make it too easy to have s*x in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Speaking to The Gamer during PAX West, game director Swen Vincke confirmed rumors that Baldur’s Gate 3 had a glitch which resulted in s*x far too quickly while romancing companion characters. He said:
“So… it was a bug. The approval thresholds were too low when we shipped. That’s why they were so horny in the beginning. It wasn’t supposed to be that way. We’ve fixed it since, at least for some of them. We’re still fixing a few of them.”
Speaking specifically on the character of Gale, Swen Vincke said:
“It wasn’t intended. Especially Gale. [He] wasn’t supposed to be like, instantly there”.

Despite player response to this bug being far from negative, it seems like Larian will indeed be working on a fix for it to make romance and s*x more balanced in the game, and Vincke confirmed as much:
“There were a lot of people that enjoyed it. But it was too fast. It was supposed to simulate how real relationships are”.
Ultimately, simulating realism in this aspect of the game is what Larian wants, and they’re hard at work patching this along with some other issues in the game.
How does s*x and romance work in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Certain characters in the game can be romanced in Baldur’s Gate 3, which can culminate in a s*x scene. Similar to other RPGs which offer romanceable companions, players will have to talk to them, help out with their personal quest lines and stories. It isn’t quite as simple as just completing certain side missions though, with all party members having an approval system where they essentially judge your choices in the game.
It is recommended that players looking to romance any character in their party set up camp often and talk to them over there. Furthermore, players can romance multiple characters in Baldur’s Gate 3, but only if the first partner is okay with it. If they’re not, the results may be less than satisfactory as some of them definitely won’t approve of multiple romantic partners.
