Amidst all the upcoming projects that are slated for release, which will shape the MCU’s upcoming phases, the production of Mahershala Ali’s Blade has been the most tumultuous. But apart from the recent delays following the impact of the WGA strike on Hollywood, fans are once again disappointed, after Kit Harington brushed off a major rumor.
Rising to fame for his performance in Game of Thrones, Harington made his MCU debut as Dane Whitman in 2021’s Eternals, and it appeared that his story might continue in the upcoming Blade. Unfortunately, this might not be the case.
Kit Harington leaves Marvel fans disheartened after debunking a major rumor
The fans of Blade are no strangers to disappointing updates regarding MCU’s upcoming take on the character, as the film has already suffered major delays ever since it was announced back in 2019. And recently, actor Kit Harington, who was rumored to star alongside Mahershala Ali in the upcoming Blade reboot, has brushed off his inclusion in the film.
In one of the post-credit scenes for Eternals, Whitman could be seen picking up his family’s legacy sword with a voice (later confirmed to be Mahershala Ali) offscreen asking him “Are you sure you’re ready for that?” Although it led many to speculate the actor’s inclusion in the upcoming Blade movie, unfortunately, it isn’t the case. Harington clarified,
“The honest answer is I think that’s the intention with the character. I think there was some misunderstanding about whether he was going to be in the ‘Blade’ movie. He was never meant to be in the ‘Blade’ movie and isn’t.”
But on the flip side, on asked whether he’ll be playing Black Knight in the MCU, he said “I think that’s the intention,” claiming he’d love to see the character being used in the right manner.
Kit Harington is keen on reprising his role in the MCU
Although Kit Harington didn’t guarantee whether MCU will be using him in their plans for the future, the Game of Thrones star is keen to reprise the character of Dane Whitman if given the chance. Although he explained he can’t tell anything at this stage, he believes that Marvel has some plans up its sleeve for the character. He said,
“So I hope they use him. I hope that the Black Knight comes along. I hope that Dane Whitman is that character but, at this stage, I can’t tell you anything. But I think the intention is to develop him at some point.”
It’d be interesting to see how Marvel develops his character in the foreseeable future, but for now, fans are left a bit disheartened after the actor debunked the rumor of his inclusion in Blade.
Blade is currently slated for a release date of 14 February 2025.
