Cavill’s contribution to this show in terms of its ratings and the script is genuinely extraordinary. However, the third season would mark the end of his run as Geralt of Rivia and instead, Liam Hemsworth would be taking over. Amongst the various changes made by the actor, this one particular change may have proven to be rather significant and helped the showrunners even more.

Henry Cavill Wanted To Honor Roach’s Death

Geralt of Rivia’s steed, Roach, was met with his tragic destiny by the end of the second season of The Witcher. Initially, the script saw this moment to be a humorous aspect of the episode that would then be brushed off without a second thought. Lauren Hissrich wrote the scene accordingly and there was no intention to give focus to Roach besides the occasional laugh his death would have brought.

“Finally I said, ‘you know what? You come up with something. I trust you. You know this material so well, you know the books so well. You don’t even have to pitch it to me.'”

Henry Cavill refused to let that happen. As a dedicated fan of the games and books, the actor was not ready to disregard the relationship Geralt had with his steed. He instead wanted to honor it. He wrote the entire sequence on his own and made sure that in no way Roach’s death be wasted. He penned down a speech that touched the hearts of anyone who watched the episode and made it a moment to remember the amazing horse and how great he was with both Cavill and Geralt.

The Witcher Will Get More Modern As The Days Pass

One of the upcoming The Witcher game is said to be focusing on the remake of an original one. However, the main goal is to modernize and reach a newer audience with it. While on paper this idea may sound good, it has worried a lot of fans. A major reason for the downfall of the Netflix series was its constant need to try and reach a newer audience.

The main premise of the game follows Geralt in medieval Europe. Its ancient setting sees many aspects that focus on the more historic side of the continent rather than the modern. This is a reason as to why the audience falls in love with the storyline and the aesthetic of the books and the games.

The Witcher’s fourth season will air on Netflix during the Summer of 2023.
