Sam Worthington had a chance to play the DC Comics character of Hal Jordan/Green Lantern. Yes, after being chosen as the lead in Avatar, the 46-year-old actor could have played Green Lantern, which was ultimately bagged by Ryan Reynolds.

However, the Australian actor made a mistake that cost him to not get cast in 2011’s Green Lantern. Worthington, best known for his work in the Avatar and Clash of the Titans series, was also a contender in Ryan Reynolds’ $200 million superhero film. 

The Shack actor has once admitted in an interview with Variety that his openness might have ultimately cost him the role Reynolds eventually received.

Sam Worthington was considered for the lead role in Green Lantern, which was ultimately played by Ryan Reynolds. Why? This is because his bluntness disqualified him from consideration. 

Well, this is a well-known tale in the movie business, where stars often discover that the fame and attitude they once desired come at a terrible price. So, it is safe to say that Reynolds’ dedication to the story was not the only factor in landing the part, one of his rivals’ lack of dedication undoubtedly cost him the job.

In an interview with Variety, Worthington, who played Jake Sully in Avatar: The Way of Water, admitted that he was in talks for the part in Green Lantern. But his questions during the casting process disqualified him from holding the ring.

The actor recalled:

“It didn’t make much sense to me. The suit comes out of his skin?” 

Despite this missed opportunity, it is obvious that the Man on a Ledge actor has enjoyed a significant amount of box office success in his career. The actor has starred in James Cameron’s highest-grossing movie of all time, Avatar.
