Hailee Steinfeld accepts feeling doubtful of her live-action project with Marvel

“When they offered you the first film and made their intentions known that they want you to play Gwen, is there any part that makes you that does this give up my live-action Marvel eligibility card?”

Steinfeld said,

“It does cross the mind, but I have learned in the Marvel Cinematic Universe anything can happen, anything is possible. Here I was playing what couldn’t be done, playing two characters. One is live-action, and one is animated, it is still crazy.”

“I am just grateful for playing any version of this character, let alone the one I am playing. It is pretty damn cool.”

Hailee Steinfeld gave voice to Gwen in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018 and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in 2023.

True Grit actress shared,

“Of course, I have connected and resonated with both these characters, but never saw myself [as Gwen or Mary Jane]. That’s the sort of thing that is impossible. These films are so grounded and rooted in their characters and emotions.”

“One of the reasons that I love Spider-man so much is because he is a normal dude, and he puts on this suit and becomes superhuman. Then he takes it off, and instantly he is a normal person again, trying to navigate life as it is. But it still seems larger than life. I never saw myself doing this, but I guess I could see myself in some of the characters in 600 iterations of the character and the film.”
