“The Oscars, you know, they’re f–king a–holes": Chris Rock Slammed the Academy for a Wildly Different Reason Despite Getting Slapped On-Stage by Will Smith

Chris Rock, known for his hilarious comedic prowess, unexpectedly turned his cutting-edge humor away from the expected issues and straight onto the Academy, shocking everyone in the entertainment industry. However, while his previous on-stage contact with Will Smith created some concerns, it was the 58-year-old close relationship with renowned actor Adam Sandler that sparked the passionate core of his criticism.

At the Mark Twain Prize for American Comedy celebration, Rock, who turned down the chance to host the 2023 Oscars after a well-publicized fight with Smith at the previous year’s ceremony, openly criticized the Academy as a collection of continuous failures to acknowledge Sandler. He said,

“The Oscars, you know, they’re f–king a–holes. And if they don’t want to give my man his props, we will tonight.”

Previous host and presenter at the Academy Awards intensely criticized the institution for its neglect of Sandler’s compelling portrayal in the 2019 film Uncut Gems and his remarkable body of work across multiple films.

Further, the actor declared his support for Sandler, whom he hailed as an all-time great. He stated,

“They don’t want to give my man his props, we will tonight, one of the greatest of all time.”

With a versatile career spanning both comedy and acting, Sandler’s noticeable absence from the Oscars stage has spurred debate and generated controversy.

Rock’s honest attitude highlights the friendship that these great people share while also shining a spotlight on the complexities of fame, talent, and recognition. However, previously Sandler also threatened to make a purposefully terrible movie if he didn’t win an Oscar.

In a bold and captivating twist, Adam Sandler, the expert of comedy whose on-screen antics resonate with uproarious energy, has deftly thrown a curveball that melds audacity with intrigue.

Throughout a cinematic journey spanning decades, his name has never graced the nominee list, nor has he held the coveted Oscar figure, despite basking in accolades for his compelling performances in Uncut Gems, Punch-Drunk Love, and The Meyerowitz Stories

In 2020, Jessica Derschowitz asserted that the disparity might arise from his enduring association with the zany man-child personas from films like Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore, coupled with the unceasing stream of popular Netflix originals.

Further, Dershowitz praised the 56-year-old transformative prowess in Uncut Gems, where he masterfully defied comedic typecasts to craft a character. She said,

“[Uncut Gems] works as well as it does because of Sandler’s ability to subvert the comedic roles we’ve always known him for and make this character both larger-than-life and incredibly human. A guy you root for because of and despite the mess he’s found himself in.”

Meanwhile, as the 92nd Academy Awards came closer, Sandler jokingly said that his bold plan to create a purposefully bad movie to playfully exact revenge would be prevented by his Best Actor nomination for Uncut Gems. He joked about his next movie,

“If I don’t get it, I’m going to f—ing come back and do one again that is so bad on purpose just to make you all pay. That’s how I get them.”

Though the Oscar nod eluded him, the Independent Spirit Award successfully found its way into Sandler’s hands, affirming his indelible mark on cinematic landscapes.
