After its release, there have been speculations about further parts of the franchise. At the Cannes Film Festival 2023, Iger was asked by IndieWire about the future of the Indiana Jones series. At Indiana Jones’ afterparty on Thursday night, he said,
“The studio could consider further extensions of the “Indiana Jones” franchise, even if the fifth edition allows Ford’s portrayal a graceful exit.”
He added that the last movie at Cannes was 15 years ago, which was Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. It premiered at Cannes in 2008.
Chris Pratt is the new face of Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones franchise?
Rumors about the Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt to replace Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones have been making rounds since 2021. It was reported that the actor would become the next Jones when Lucasfilm will reboot the adventure franchise.
However, the Jurassic World star shut down the rumors on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. He shared
“I don’t even know who Steven Spielberg is. Who? Steven Who?” Pratt quipped before getting more serious. “No, aren’t they doing ‘Indiana Jones’ with Harrison Ford? All I know is I once saw a quote from Harrison Ford and I don’t even know if it was really him but it was enough to scare me, that was like, ‘When I die, Indiana Jones dies.’ And I’m like, am I gonna get haunted by the ghost of Harrison Ford one day when he dies if I play…?”
The quote from Harrison Ford was from his 2019 interview on Today.
With the announcement of his retirement by Ford, it will be interesting to see if Chris Pratt would be willing to play the new Indy. The actor was recently seen in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is still in theatres.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will hit the theatres on June 30, 2023.
