“The Flash was made with $300M”: DC Fans Annihilate James Gunn as Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon CGI Makes History With 3.6X Less Budget

DC Fans Annihilate James Gunn as Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon CGI Makes History With 3.6X Less Budget

After a baffingly bad opening, The Flash (2023), based on the superhero of the same name (Barry Allen), is officially a flop. Of course, the movie isn’t great, but it’s relatively pacy and features many exciting action scenes.

The Flash was released this year after a decade of setbacks, delays, and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. But the movie was dead in the water as it faced similar studio meddling, which hindered its success.

What’s the reason? – Of course, the bad CGI!

Why Was The Flash‘s CGI Nasty Even With a Budget of 300M?

Ezra Miller’s DC film The Flash (2023) debuted in theaters this year and became the worst box office flop in superhero movies. The main reason behind its fall is its bad CGI, which wasn’t liked by the fans. While the CGI was bad throughout the film, the scenes in different dimensions are also nothing to write home about.

But according to The Flash director Andy Muschietti, that’s what it’s supposed to look like. The CGI in the movie raised concerns among viewers — particularly about the unsettling microwave-baby scene. For which he said:

“The idea, of course, is…we are in the perspective of the Flash.”

He continued:

“Everything is distorted in terms of lights and textures. We enter this ‘waterworld’ which is basically being in Barry’s POV. It was part of the design so if it looks a little weird to you that was intended.”

Besides this, the shocking thing is the movie’s budget – 300M (one of the most expensive superhero films of all time), which raises a stink – if not best in CGI, then where did all the money go?

Rebel Moon Has Better CGI and Lower Cost Than The Flash

After directing DC movies like Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice LeagueZack Snyder is now back with another film with better CGI than The Flash. The production budget of Snyder’s Rebel Moon is 80M, which is much less than The Flash‘s budget (300M).

So, Rebel Moon is not only good in terms of its quality CGI of a human-spider hybrid (antagonist of the movie) but also in terms of a better budget setup. Set to release on 22 December 2023, the movie is about the star-trotting epic Rebel Moon, a lone-wolf soldier, Kora (Sofia Boutella).

With advancements in 21st-century CGI, we can anticipate better visual effects for creating the human-spider hybrid. Similar to how modern movies utilize motion-capture technology for CGI characters, Rebel Moon‘s human-spider hybrid could be an impressive antagonist.

However, it’s reported that Jena Malone will play the character of Harmada — a lethal, ageless half-woman, half-spider who seeks vengeance for her own losses.

There are a few ways to watch The Flash online in the U.S. You can use streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime Video.
