The Flash brought back Ezra Miller’s superhero in what was supposed to be one of the best superhero films ever. Well, at least that’s what James Gunn had fans believing before the release. The film also brought back a few familiar faces including Michael Keaton, George Clooney, Ben Affleck’s Batman, Nicolas Cage’s Superman, and so on.
However, while you might think that The Flash overdid it with the cameos as it is, its creators had a lot more superheroes they wanted to add to their films. This includes the original Wonder Woman played by the iconic Lynda Carter. Unfortunately, there was already too much going on in the film and they couldn’t find a spot for the actress.
Michael Keaton and Lynda Carter Could’ve Paired Up in The Flash
For those who have loved the idea of seeing Michael Keaton, Christopher Reeve, and Lynda Carter come together to create a superhero dream team of fighting the bad guys together, The Flash could’ve been their chance. While the film had an actual cameo of Keaton and a digitalized one of the late Reeve, it missed out on the opportunity of having Carter reprise her role as Wonder Woman.
The brother-sister duo, Andy and Barbara Muschietti opened up about how Carter almost found her way into The Flash. When Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen looks into other realities, he was one decision away from witnessing Carter’s phenomenal performance as Wonder Woman.
Talking to Vanity Fair, Barbara Muschietti stated,
“The universes start colliding, and we had a lot more characters that we all know that we had to let go because there just wasn’t the time.”
Adding to his sister’s words, Andy Muschietti stated, “We had to choose, we had to pick. Lynda Carter was one of them.”
The other characters that almost made it to the film include Marlon Brando’s Jor-El from Superman (1978), Cesar Romero’s Joker from the Batman TV series (1960s), Grant Gustin from The CW’s The Flash (2014), and more.
Lynda Carter Almost Had a Cameo in Yet Another DC Film
Looks like Carter’s luck isn’t running in her favor as she keeps missing out on chances to revive her Wonder Woman in new projects. Back when Gal Gadot was starting out as Wonder Woman, Carter contacted director Patty Jenkins to see if she could get a cameo in her solo film.
In an interview with Variety, she stated,
“We were trying to see if I could do something with the movie, but it didn’t work out. The timing was off, and I was doing other things and couldn’t get over to where they were shooting.”
As for what she has to say about the character, Carter believes that Wonder Woman is so much more than a cartoon character and is the perfect role model for women and girls.
“We’re still fighting the same fight. We still need more female role models. But Wonder Woman is much more than a cartoon character. She’s fighting for truth and justice and the secret self that exists in all women and girls. There’s a moral fiber and a goodness about her that all women have.”
We can clearly see the passion Carter has for Wonder Woman. It would have been truly incredible to see her reprise the character in The Flash, but in the end, the creators knew what they were doing and what would work best for the film.
The Flash will be available to stream on Max from August 25, 2023.
