One Piece chapter 1088 was recently released in July, and fans are overjoyed to see yet another amazing chapter added to the already incredible Egghead Island arc. The events of this chapter centered on Pirate Island and finished the fight between the Marine’s Hero Garp and the Blackbeard Pirates. With all the death radar hovering over Garp, fans have been excitedly awaiting the release of Chapter 1088 of the One Piece manga. Fans are more concerned than ever now that chapter spoilers have been released, as it appears that Garp has been defeated by Blackbeard Pirates but is he dead too?
One Piece Chapter 1088 focuses on the storyline of Garp’s mission to free Koby from Blackbeard pirates and he successfully manages to do so, but instead, he gets caught in a fight between him and Blackbeard Pirates, especially Aokiji Kuzan, a former marine and his former student.
Warning: Spoilers Ahead
Is Garp Really Dead?
Garp joins the ranks of renowned One Piece characters such as Gol D. Roger, Whitebeard, Rocks D. Xebec, Kaido, and others. But, having lately witnessed the pinnacle of his powers, we didn’t expect to see Garp on the verge of death in the One Piece manga. One Piece chapter 1088 marks the end of the violent struggle between Monkey D. Garp and various officials of the Blackbeard Pirates, including Kuzan Aokiji, who is now apparently a member of the infamous crew. Garp was beating Kuzan until Shiryu put a critical wound on him.
In the final panel of One Piece chapter 1088, we see Garp lying down on the ground, surrounded by the Titanic commanders of the Blackbeard Pirates. When faced with a life-or-death situation, he was spotted laughing, as were all D members. Aokiji’s Time Capsule power was also seen to be freezing one side of his face. While the situation may appear grim, there are compelling reasons to assume that Garp is still alive. Although these considerations are theoretical, they give compelling reasons against the possibility of his death.
Reasons For Keeping Garp Alive
Garp’s fate is explicitly stated in the manga as “unknown.” If he had genuinely died, the story would have given him a dramatic and heroic death befitting his character. The lack of a conclusive ending hints that there may be more to Garp’s story to come. Another reason is that Aokiji uses a different technique to completely paralyze him.
The narrator compares it to what Kuzan did with Jaguar D. Saul back in Ohara, implying that the former Admiral employed the so-called Ice Time Capsule which may result in stopping Garp’s wounds from getting more dangerous, and just like Saul, he may be left alive.
