Right after Netflix came up with Henry Cavill’s The Witcher, fans lost their mind over the show and turned it into one of the most popular series on the OTT platform. However, on a recent note, the show experienced a surge in criticism from fans as creators confirmed replacing the titular character, Geralt of Rivia with Liam Hemsworth.
While the show previously raved with intense reviews from audiences and critics, it gradually lost its charm by the end of season 3, as showmakers announced the exit of Henry Cavill. Although fans highly doubt Liam Hemsworth’s capabilities to step into Cavill’s large shoes and become the new Geralt in Season 4, showmakers gave cryptic answers about the replacement.
Henry Cavill’s Exit And Theories Associated With The Change
The recent release of The Witcher season 3, which evidently marked the end of Henry Cavill’s appearance in the show, turned into a massive hit. Fans gathered to pay homage to the actor whom audiences know as the infamous character, Geralt of Rivia. While fans are disheartened for Cavill, who will no longer don the ash-white wig, the suit of armor, and the twin swords, audiences are also waiting for Liam Hemsworth to take the position.
Although The Witcher fans highly doubt the Australian actor’s capabilities to do justice to Henry Cavill‘s OG character Geralt of Rivia, they are eager to learn how the showmakers will explain the replacement. Losing their minds over the news of Cavill’s exit, fans have thus come up with two theories that might somewhat explain the sudden change in the face of the titular character.
Despite The Witcher Season 4 filming getting delayed to 2024 due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Netflix confirmed the plot points surrounding Geralt of Rivia’s new face. Thus, the confirmation gave birth to a possible theory that will explain a new Geralt. Taking hints from DC and Marvel, fans came up with theories of a multiverse that could explain a face change.
The Witcher Producer Gives Cryptic Replies To Fan Theories
Amid fans’ outrage over Henry Cavill’s replacement in The Witcher, executive producer Tomek Baginski, addressed the fan theories, and gave out his own cryptic answers. Sitting for an interview with Wyborcza, Baginski denied the concept of the multiverse in The Witcher, like that of DC and Marvel. He simply stated, “Many book readers forget what Andrzej Sapkowski did in the fifth volume of the saga.”
“At the beginning of the book, we learn that everything we’ve read so far might not have been true. And this cannot be compared with, for example, the currently popular concept of the multiverse, where out of nowhere there are many different realities.” Tomek Baginski explained.
Further, Baginski specifically answered the question about the replacement of Cavill and the recasting of Liam Hemsworth. “I’ll say this: I remember…when the 5th book was released, people were very frustrated,” the executive producer shared. He further added, “everything was turned upside down, and suddenly it turned out to be some postmodern play with form.”
Taking shelter under Andrzej Sapkowski’s work Tomek Baginski mentioned, “I believe that what has been planned for Season 4 is consistent with the books.” Giving out cryptic replies without directly answering about the replacement, the executive producer appeared to be begging for audiences’ faith in the change.
