Before landing the lead roles of Bruce Wayne and Catwoman in The Batman, both Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz had to go through a rigorous audition process. As Kravitz explained on The Tonight Show, she flew out to Los Angeles to meet with director Matt Reeves, whom she described as a “wonderful human” and a “wonderful director.” During her audition, she had the opportunity to screen test with Pattinson.

Kravitz and Pattinson had known each other from the film industry but had never worked together before. She praised Pattinson’s work and said that it was funny to see him dressed up as Batman, especially since she hadn’t seen him in a while.

During the screen test, Pattinson wore the Batsuit worn by George Clooney in Batman & Robin, but only from the waist up. Zoë Kravitz couldn’t help but laugh when she saw him wearing sweatpants at the bottom. Kravitz said

Zoë Kravitz even gave the look a nickname, calling it “Casual Batman,” and joked with Fallon that hopefully, they could see it in The Batman sequel.

Despite the wardrobe mishap, Kravitz was impressed by Pattinson’s performance during the screen test. She admitted that she was worried she would be distracted by the fact that it was Pattinson dressed up as Batman, but he was so convincing in the role that she forgot it was him.

“He was so good. I was so scared that I was gonna just be thinking like, ‘Oh my god, that’s Rob dressed as Batman. That’s weird.’ But he was so wonderful that I totally forgot it was him actually, which was really impressive.”
