Offering a fresh start to the Batman world, Matt Reeve’s 2022 The Batman offered an avant-garde brutal and gritty version of Gotham, introducing Robert Pattinson as the new caped crusader. Hailed by fans and critics alike, this neo-noir detective take on Batman received positive reviews from all. An immersive experience, the stunning visuals, audio, and gripping action sequences were praised by audiences worldwide. Moreover, the outstanding performances by Robert Pattinson, Colin Farrell, and Paul Dano also caught the attention of the viewers.
Now, with the announcement of a sequel, DCEU fans can’t keep calm. And humorously enough, this excitement has reached the Marvel camp in a unique way. Comparing the upcoming The Batman II with Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War, fans have sparked debate on social media.
Can The Batman II take on Avengers: Infinity War?
Amassing over $2.48 billion worldwide, Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Avengers: Infinity War is known as one of the most expensive films ever made with a staggering budget of $325-400 million. After its release in 2018, the movie garnered generally favorable reviews from fans and critics alike and was also nominated for Best Visual Effects at the 91st Academy Awards.
On the other hand, the 2022 DCEU movie The Batman grossed over $770 million against a $200 million budget. A fan-favorite amidst the current DCEU movies, viewers expect the sequel to be bigger and better. With some even wanting it to take over Avengers: Infinity War.
A lot of this excitement can be attributed to Matt Reeve’s ambitious plans for the sequel. Rebranded as Elseworlds storyline, The Batman Part II would be developed in accordance with the future potential spin-offs. But can it take over the $29 billion worth studio’s Avengers movie?
What to expect from The Batman II?
Reportedly, filming for The Batman II is not expected to commence until the end of 2023. Originally scheduled for release on October 3, 2025, the movie has encountered a halt owing to the ongoing WGA Writers’ Strike. Hence, it is conjectured that the production phase might now begin only in 202 with some scenes likely to be shot in London.
In terms of the cast, Robert Pattinson might be reprising his role as Batman alongside Jeffery Wright as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis and Alfred Pennyworth, Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Colin Farrell as Penguin, and Paul Dano as Riddler. Moreover, there are rumors suggesting the return of Harvey Dent, aka Two-Face.
No official announcement or trailer is currently available for the movie. However, the excitement among the fans is palpable, indicating the level of anticipation for the project.
