Following his portrayal of Benny in the semi-autobiographical Steven Spielberg movie The Fabelmans, Seth Rogen has forged a notable bond with the iconic filmmaker. However, in a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Rogen unequivocally expressed that he would never partake in sharing a joint with Spielberg. He humorously declared, “No, never, never.” While Spielberg may jest about the idea, Rogen made it clear that it’s not on the cards.
Rogen elaborated, revealing his reasons for declining such an offer: “I don’t want to be the guy who breaks Steven Spielberg’s f***ing brain!” he exclaimed. “That’s a heavy burden. That’s the last thing I need,” he playfully added.
During the interview, Kimmel chimed in with another playful remark, insinuating that Spielberg might have been in an altered state when creating some of his iconic movies. He cheekily reminded Spielberg of his famous film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, questioning whether he was sober when crafting a tale about an alien that enjoys consuming Reese’s Pieces and struggles to remember how to contact home.

However, Spielberg was quick to emphasize that his enjoyment of Rogen’s films goes beyond their marijuana-themed humor. In an exclusive interview with Variety, Spielberg shared his humorously unique perspective:
“Having never been stoned, I don’t see them as stoner movies. I see them as movies about a police officer giving solid, sound advice to a young, impressionable person.”
The Spielberg-Rogen connection traces its origins back to 1999 with the emergence of DreamWorks Television’s Freaks and Geeks. This short-lived yet impactful series, masterminded by Spielberg’s production company Amblin Partners, marked Rogen’s inaugural foray into acting as Ken Miller.
