Charlie Cox has worked on some incredible projects. His return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is one that took fans by surprise but it was a well-received surprise. From big actors and directors to iconic roles, there is no shortage of experience that the Daredevil actor has. Out of the various roles he has played, one he played in his early years as an actor stayed with him for a long time.
There have been many directors that he has worked with but none left an impression on Cox the way that Matthew Vaughn did. Not only did the movie star some of the biggest actors, but it was also one of the starter projects for Henry Cavill.
Charlie Cox’s Stardust Was Made Because The Director Was Sick of Kids’ Movies
One of the most magnificent traits of Neil Gaiman as a writer is how he can make stories targeted at children interesting even for adults. He can achieve the same in the opposite situation as well. Examples of the same can be seen in stories such as The Graveyard Book and Coraline. However, to achieve that with Stardust was a task Matthew Vaughn was eager to take up.
“The way that he described it was, ‘I want to make a kids’ film for adults [and] an adult film for kids’—and I think that’s one of the things he achieved really well with Stardust.”
When Vaughn revealed what motivated him to make the movie, it was a similar concept to what Gaiman also follows. According to him, the movies that he was being forced to watch with his kids were making him sick. He could not watch kids’ movies anymore and he needed to make a movie that both age ranges could watch without feeling the need to pull their hair out.
Charlie Cox Did Not Know He Would Be Rehearsing With Robert De Niro
Charlie Cox had no idea that the co-star he would get to work with was none other than Robert De Niro. When he first got to know about his co-star, he was introduced as Bob. Naturally, Cox thought of him as just another actor. However, he did not expect De Niro to show up.
“I remember the first time I met Robert De Niro, or ‘Bob’ as I was encouraged to call him. They asked me in one of the latter casting stages if I wanted to rehearse with Bob, and I thought, oh, it’s some other random actor trying out for a role.”
He was extremely shocked to see an actor who he had always looked up to and was glad at the same time. Despite having such a big actor working with him, all Cox wanted to do was cherish the opportunity before him and work better as an actor.
