"That's a good sign": Fans Rejoice as Secret Invasion Boss Confirms Show Takes the Dark Tone a "Step Further" Than 'The Winter Soldier'

Marvel’s Secret Invasion series has been a highly anticipated production ever since it was announced in 2020. With its star-studded cast, led by Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as Talos the Skrull, fans have been eagerly waiting for any update on the show’s release and tone. The show has gone on to elicit several speculations comparing it to the much loved MCU project, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, in terms of theme and action and the talks have slowly been confirmed as well.

The president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige himself revealed that Secret Invasion will take a darker tone than The Winter Soldier. And now the series director, Ali Selim, and producer Jonathan Schwartz have themselves talked to Total Film Magazine for its latest issue about the same. The two revealed how they felt encouraged by the overwhelming response to Captain America’s second installment, and decided to go on with it. Another revelation they made was about Nick Fury and how this project also aims at exploring his character in a more nuanced manner than has ever been attempted before, even though he has been a part of the franchise since 2008.

Selim shared,

“The first conversations I had [with Marvel] were, ‘Nobody flies in the air in the show.’ I realized, ‘Yeah, they’re doing something very different, and that’s exciting.'”

Schwartz went on to add,

“The Winter Soldier certainly gave us a lot of confidence that we could tell a story in that space that felt more like a paranoid thriller. Secret Invasion takes that a step further, and you really get to dig into Nick. It becomes much more character-focused in a way that I really love.”
