“That was the apex for me”: Sharon Stone Considers Her $116M Movie The Greatest Achievement Despite Breaking Out Into Hollywood With Erotic Thriller Starring Marvel Star

Sharon Stone Considers Her $116M Movie The Greatest Achievement Despite Breaking Out Into Hollywood With Erotic Thriller Starring Marvel Star

Sharon Stone has witnessed the highest of highs and lowest of lows in Hollywood. Although her career took a substantial toll in the 2000s following her unfortunate health concerns, the 90s witnessed the actress rosing to prominence, thanks to the plethora of classics under her belt.

But despite initially garnering the spotlight with Basic Instinct, starring Michael Douglas, the actress doesn’t consider this erotic thriller as her most substantial achievement in showbiz. And unsurprisingly, that title goes to her collaboration with some of the greatest in the game.

Sharon Stone Names Casino as Her Best Work

Casino marked the 8th collaboration between Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese, and getting the opportunity to work alongside these greats was a dream come true for Sharon Stone. However, the Basic Instinct Star wasn’t overshadowed by the presence of other prominent actors, delivering her best on-screen performance to date. And for her exceptional work, the actress was deservedly rewarded, earning her first and only Academy Award nom for Best Actress.

Considering how much the opportunity to join forces with the cinema giants meant for her, it’s reasonable why she considered playing Ginger McKenna the pinnacle of her career.

“It’s deeply gratifying in two ways. One, because I see the film and I realize… it’s true! I haven’t been deluding myself all these years. I really can do it. And because I got up to bat with my dream people, the one actor that all my career I strived to work with, that was the apex for me… and then Marty… And then to get the pat on your back from your peers is always pretty great. You know, you don’t get a lot of that.” Stone said.

But unlike Casino, where she had a great time working alongside the likes of Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese, the production process for her breakthrough film wasn’t plain sailing.

Basic Instinct Broke Sharon Stone Before Pushing Her Into Prominence

Although Sharon Stone didn’t pull any punches for Basic Instinct, successfully delivering an enticing display of her skills as an actor, the production for it wasn’t too smooth sailing. From working long hours to suffering mini-seizures, crafting the erotic thriller took a heavy toll on the Total Recall star. However, the situation aggravated after everyone on set refused to take her word, eventually leading to the actress being hospitalized.

“I was clearly having some mini seizures when I was doing Basic Instinct. I used to tell people I was having them, and nobody would believe me.” Stone recounted.
