Marvel stars Elizabeth Olsen and Josh Brolin collaborated on the action thriller Oldboy before starring together in MCU. A remake of the Korean cult classic with the same name, the movie failed miserably on the big screen, marking it as a complete box office disaster.
Oldboy had some oddly grotesque scenes along with love scenes between Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Olsen. Due to their massive age difference, Oslen had a hard time preparing for them. In an interview, she explained how it was Kate Winslet that helped her become comfortable and eventually act them out.
Elizabeth Olsen Credits Kate Winslet For Her Disturbing N*ked Scenes
Oldboy featured Josh Brolin being a one-man army seeking revenge on his captors. During his traumatizing journey, he meets a young female acquaintance, played by Elizabeth Olsen. The two develop a close relationship and the film features some nude scenes between the two.
However, being n*ked was something that the WandaVision actress had reservations about. Looking up to other actresses and her co-actors is what helped Olsen look past her discomfort and deliver those scenes. In an interview with She Knows, the actress revealed,
“I remember watching Holy Smoke and thinking that it was so reassuring to see a young Kate doing something that was so bold in so many ways. I thought to myself, ‘OK, so it doesn’t destroy your career if you appear nude or take risks,’ because not everyone in my family and group of friends thought it was the best idea to be naked in a movie.”
While Olsen says she would never agree to do a ‘beauty shot in a bikini on a beach’, the actress is very careful when it comes to appearing nude on the big screen and would only agree if the scene helps the storyline.
Elizabeth Olsen Felt Uncomfortable Doing Love Scenes With Josh Brolin
Elizabeth Olsen was on board for Oldboy as soon as she read the script but was quite apprehensive about performing love scenes with an actor more than 20 years her senior. But eventually, the support and motivation she got from the movie’s director Spike Lee helped her settle. Talking about Brolin, Olsen remarked,
“It was probably weirder for him than for me because he has a daughter my age, so I’m sure that was weird for both of them.”
Furthermore, she emphasized the importance of clear communication and trust between actors and directors, which ultimately allowed her to deliver the scenes with comfort and ease.
