Denzel Washington hints that this may be the end of the road for McCall. The vigilante, also known as The Equalizer, helps people by taking down criminals and unleashing wrath on the Mafia. The American Gangster actor reveals that when they started the franchise, he had no idea there would be three films or how it would all conclude. Washington shared:

“I don’t want to say he’s found happiness, and I don’t want to give it all away, but he meets someone lovely, he’s in a lovely town and he seems to be at peace. That seems to be a good place to stop.”

The Malcolm X actor stepped into the role after Russell Crowe’s attempts to bring the character to the big screen fell through. Washington collaborated with director Antoine Fuqua for the franchise, reuniting after their 2001 Oscar-winning movie Training Day.

Denzel Washington and Antoine Fuqua believe they have created two of the best action movies of the 2010s and are determined to sign off with a bang. The threequel is scheduled to release on September 1st of this year. In the movie, McCall hopes to live a peaceful life in Southern Italy, but all hell breaks loose when the Mafia gets involved. Fuqua also hints that the character may not return after this movie:

“This is it. Robert McCall, the working-man hero, at some point he’s got to walk away from it. At some point, someone else has to pick up the ball and serve justice. He’s served his justice. He’s in a foreign place, he’s trying to find a home, find a place in the world. That’s really what’s important.”

However, fans can still catch the vigilante in action, played by Queen Latifah, in The Equalizer series. The show has already successfully run for three seasons and has been renewed for a fourth. But for those who are fans of the Déjà Vu actor, The Equalizer 1 and The Equalizer 2 are available to rent on Amazon Prime and Apple TV.
