An incident occurred during the shooting of her 2003 movie Monster when director Patty Jenkins was at a loss for words. Theron, however, quickly stepped in to defend the director’s vision and gave a blunt “no” to the studio that wanted a lesbian story rather than the life of the serial killer.

With a lover to her name, Theron’s character of Wuornos was romantically involved with Christina Ricci’s Selby Wall. Keeping the focus intact on the serial killer, studio executives did not like it when director Patty Jenkins refused them a hot lesbian make-out scene that they wanted to show in the movie. Winning an Oscar for her role in Monster, Charlize Theron revealed what went down during the shooting of the movie in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar.

The actress recalled that it was director Patty Jenkins‘ first feature film and the studio executives wanted “a hot lesbian movie with me and Christina Ricci”. This wasn’t all, since Theron went on to discuss how she always had frustration for the costume department since they chose what she had to wear and she was “really f – – king annoyed”

“Having absolutely no control over what you’re wearing is a big one that really fu–ing annoyed me for years. Having some guy make you have a fitting almost in front of them—stuff like that, it’s really belittling,”

She further recalled how a male director was making her change countless times for a movie and stated that it was obviously regarding her “sexuality and how f–kable they could make me in the movie”.
