Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith are very transparent about their long-term marriage. The family’s life has been a matter of public discussion on several occasions whether it’s the controversial Oscar slap that tarnished Will Smith’s Best Actor Award or Jada Smith’s affair with her son’s best friend. The Girls Trip actress previously hosted the Red Table Talk on Facebook watch alongside her mother and daughter.
Audiences were interested in watching the Smith family’s open heart-to-heart conversations that happen at the Red Table Talk. In one such episode, featuring both Jaden Smith and Willow Smith, the family discussed the parenting style of Will Smith and Jada Smith.
Will Smith’s Daughter Revealed The Worst Punishment She Got
During a conversation with The Sun about their parenting approach, Will Smith stated that the couple did not believe in punishing their children for their mistakes. The Pursuit of Happyness actor shared that, from an early age, they would try to sit their kids down and explain why the things they did were right or wrong.
However, Willow Smith explained a different kind of punishment that she experienced from her parents. In a Red Table Talk episode where fans asked each of the family members a question, Willow Smith was asked whether she thought parents punishing kids was necessary. In her response, Smith revealed one punishment that was particularly difficult for her. She said:
“OK, for me, disappointment is punishment. I respect my parents so much that disappointment is like a knife in my heart. I want to be a person that my parents want to look at, that my parents are proud of.”
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, even with the controversies surrounding them, have been great parents to their children, as evident from their 22-year-old daughter’s words.
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith Were Hands-Off Parents
Everyone may not agree with Will Smith and Jada Smith on their parenting style. The Seven Pounds actor revealed that they used a very relaxed parenting style with their kids. The couple shared on multiple occasions that they treat their children as equals. The King Richard actor once shared:
“We respect our children the way we would respect any other person. Things like cleaning up their room. You would never tell a full-grown adult to clean their room, so we don’t tell our kids to clean their rooms.”
However, the Bad Boys actor later admitted that their approach might have been too relaxed, considering that Jaden Smith grew up to be a fearless individual. The Men in Black actor feels that as a parent, this transformation was scary. Jada Smith’s mother also disapproves of the couple’s non-disciplinary parenting style.
However, it seems like Will Smith’s three children have matured into decent kids, not corrupted by the fame and publicity that envelop their lives.
