If you were growing up during the age of retro games, you are about to feel a lot more nostalgic about them, as they are beginning to make a comeback on Xbox. The retro game streaming service Antstream Arcade which houses over 1400 retro games has become available on Xbox with the help of the Big Kahuna at Xbox Phil Spencer.
According to a report from Video Games Chronicle, the full list of games is somewhere around 1470 in total, which includes 300 arcade games, 200 Amiga games, 350 C64 games, 50 Mega Drive games, and 350 ZX Spectrum games, roughly.
What Players Can Now Expect on their Xbox’s Thanks to Phil Spencer
Other games available on the platform are Mortal Kombat, Metal Slug X, Earthworm Jim 2 and Robotron 2084, just to name a few.
According to Antstream’s official Twitter account, they have stated.
“We’re looking into account linking in the future as part of our big project vision update towards the end of the year.”
Moreover, players will be able to buy a one-year’s subscription service for around $30 or they could get themselves a Lifetime Pass Edition for $80.
During an interview with Xbox Expansion Pass podcast, Mike Rouse, the head of Antstream Studio has said:
“My background has been in running studios and making AAA games for the last 23 years.”

The studio head has continued to say:
“I set up the London Xbox development studio back in 2012 and had a good relationship with a large number of people on Xbox [including] Phil Spencer. When I went to Antstream a lot of the focus had been on trying to get on things like smart TVs, and I said, ‘look, we need to get where gamers are’.”
Rouse has said that he got in touch with Phil Spencer, had a meeting with him and Spencer gave his blessing to get the games preservation working on Xbox.
Rouse finished by saying,
“And so we’ve spent the last year getting our tech in place, optimizing the code so that it can run on Xbox, and without the support of Phil and his team it may never have come over, but yeah, they’ve been super supportive of Antstream coming to Xbox. They get the vision, and for Xbox players there’s 1400+ games landing on day one. You’re not going to like them all, but there’s enough in there probably to keep you playing for 10 years.”
It seems Rouse bringing Antstream and over 1,400 games to Xbox is largely thanks to his ingenuity and prior relationship with Phil Spencer, but in a time where Microsoft is flagging in the public eye, this couldn’t have come at a better time.
What do you make of all this? Will you be trying out any of the retro titles soon to be available on Xbox? Or are you firmly a gamer that is desperate for the newest and best available? Let us know in the comments!
