CEO of Techland Pawel Morchewka advised that he will be staying on his current role and that the studio will have complete creative freedom and that it will retain complte ownership of its IPs. And Morchewka who founded the studio back in 1991, had the following to say on his vision of the future of the Dying Light title;

“We dream of turning Dying Light into the ultimate zombie game experience for players worldwide, providing you with multiple astonishing adventures and pushing the boundaries of solo and online modes to a totally new level,”

“Our open world action-RPG in a fantasy setting is already shaping up to become something truly special, and the goal here is to make sure it will live up to the expectations for our first new IP in almost a decade”.

Moving forward with Tencent

What could it mean for the Dying Light title with Tencent becoming majority shareholder of Techland?

Morchewka followed up on this with the following comment after the news of the acquisition by Tencent;

“Can we make these dreams come true? Yes, we can. But what we realized is that the best, boldest dreams can only be achieved while working side-by-side with like-minded friends and strong partners, who share the same vision, passion, and have the willingness to back it up with their knowledge, experience, and capabilities.

“Today I am happy to announce the partnership with Tencent who are in the process of becoming Techland’s majority shareholder.

“Teaming up with Tencent will allow us to move full speed ahead with the execution of the vision for our games. We have chosen an ally who has already partnered with some of the world’s finest video game companies and helped them reach new heights while respecting their ways of doing things.

“We will retain full ownership of our IPs, maintain creative freedom, and continue to operate the way we believe is right. I’m also going to continue serving as the studio’s CEO.

So from these comments we can speculate that there is to be a third entry in the Dying Light series. And why not? The original 2015 Dying Light game has sold over 20 million copies and that was followed in 2022 with Dying Light 2 which saw sales of 5 million copies in it’s launch month along. So it’s clear the appetite for this game from fans is there.

And Techland also announced last year that it intended to start work on a new open-world fantasy RPG. With some of the team consisting of former members of CD Projekt Red staff. And there’s some notable names amongst them. Bartosz Ochman, open-world Director who worked on Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt joins along with narrative director Karolina Stachyra and narrative lead Arkadiusz Borowik, who worked on the Witcher 2 and Witcher 3, respectively.
