Sylvester Stallone and Richard Gere are among the leading stars of Hollywood and have been in the film industry for a long time. However, despite being in the same industry for decades, the two never shared the screen. The reason behind this is considered to be the alleged feud between the actors that dates all the way back to the 1970s. While they never appeared on screen together, Stallone and Gere were set to share the screen in the 1974 film The Lords of Flatbush.
However, things did not work out in Gere’s favor, and he had to leave the film just days after he started filming following a fight with Rocky star on the film set. And the feud would later lead to an almost a fight between them.
Sylvester Stallone And Richard Gere Almost Came to Blows
In his memoir, Me, Elton John shared that while he was working on the music of Disney’s 1994 film The Lion King, he held a dinner party for the former Disney chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg. He shared that he invited multiple Hollywood stars, including Sylvester Stallone and Richard Gere, along with Princess Diana.
The singer shared that Princess Diana and Gere seemed “very taken with each other,” and the Rambo star did not look very happy about it. John believed that Stallone showed up at the party with the intention of “picking Diana up,” who recently separated from her husband, Prince Charles.
However, it appeared to be failing due to the Primal Fear actor. Later the British singer noticed that Stallone and Gere were nowhere to be seen during the dinner. His husband, David Furnish, went out looking and found them “squaring up to each other.”
The Hollywood actors were apparently about to get into a fistfight. David Furnish was able to calm them down for the dinner. However, seeing that Gere still had Princess Diana’s attention, Stallone stormed out of the party after the dinner.
Sylvester Stallone Got into a Fight With Richard Gere
Sylvester Stallone and Richard Gere were cast in the 1974 drama The Lords of Flatbush. The film follows a group of high school boys in Brooklyn who call themselves The Lords of Flatbush. Stallone and Gere were cast as the lead characters.
However, the Unfaithful actor was later replaced with Perry King after a clash with The Expendables star. Stallone shared during an interview that while rehearsing a fight scene for the film, they got a little carried away when Gere grabbed him. While he was trying to cool things down, his former co-star “was completely in character and impossible to deal with.”
And things got out of hand after Richard Gere dropped a “greasy river of mustard lands” on Stallone’s thigh. The Creed actor shared that things escalated after he elbowed Gere in the side of his head and pushed him out of the car. The director eventually decided to fire the Breathless actor.
