Sylvester Stallone and Richard Gere are among the top leading stars who started their acting career in the 1970s. While the former went for action flicks that won fans’ attention, the latter’s soft genre charmed the fans. Their similar acting timelines were not the only thing that brought their names together as they were involved in a longstanding feud that even stretched to the British royal gates.
The duo was once ready to involve in a major fistfight over none other than the late Princess Diana, who was a significant personality in the 1990s.
Things Were Going Well for Richard Gere and Princess Diana
Princess Diana was an important figure in the British royal family who was known for her activism and glamour. She was the first wife of the current monarch, King Charles III who share two kids, Prince William and Prince Harry.
Her glamour was quite known around the world which was one of her unique charms. However, one might be unversed by the fact that she was the major protagonist in Sylvester Stallone and Richard Gere’s feud which reportedly held back in 1994.
In his memoir, Me, Elton John wrote about their quarrel which happened at a party he threw for then-Walt Disney Studios chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg. Among the esteemed guests, the trio who were the subject of the incident were also invited and graced their presence.
John wrote in the memoir,
“Straight away, Richard Gere and Diana seemed very taken with each other.”
Referring to their relationship status, he wrote that the Princess was already estranged from her husband meanwhile Gere got newly single after ending things with Cindy Crawford. They started talking to each other and were enjoying each other’s company. Though things looked great at first, it reportedly “was not going down well with Sylvester Stallone at all.” Stallone seemed unhappy with what was going on at the party!

After everyone move to dine in, the singer saw the rivals being nowhere to find. Later on, the duo was spotted “in the corridor, squaring up to each other, apparently about to settle their differences over Diana by having a fistfight.”
They were eventually told to settle things peacefully which resulted in Stallone storming “off home.” While it was quite an incident given the arch-rivals’ past record, The Expendables star replied to a fan on his Instagram comments that Elton’s story was a “Total BS for him to sell books.”
Their rivalry was said to have stemmed from The Lords of the Flatbush which continued to be unresolved.
