Blizzard Entertainment’s newest release, Diablo IV, is once again causing problems for gamers with another bug that is leading to the deaths of multiple high-level hardcore characters. This comes only days after a 1.0.3 patch for the game was released, with the intention of buffing early skill tree builds for all characters, near the beginning of the game. This particular bug involves the Treasure Goblin, an adversary in the game, who should not be causing these kinds of problems for gamers.
In Diablo IV, the Treasure Goblin is a demon that is essentially meant to do one thing, spit loot for characters to collect. However, even through the Treasure Goblin is not meant to attack, when the creature dies it emits a pulse which is instantly killing any character in proximity, with one hit. This is causing major frustration for players, especially those in hardcore mode, because once your character dies it cannot be revived. Other players, even those not in hardcore, have reported the Treasure Goblin is doing way more damage than it should, which is making everything more challenging.

Hardcore characters have now been killed in Diablo IV through loading screen bugs, disconnect bugs, and now even one of the weakest enemies in the game. Blizzard Entertainment will certainly continue to work on patching these issues and has even announced it will be monitoring discussion boards for more items that need patching. However, in the mean time, there is still no way to prevent this annoyingly simple bug from ruining part of the game for hardcore players out there. As this issue continues, it will be interesting to see if Blizzard Entreatment has a way to rectify the situation. Perhaps it can revive the fallen high-level characters, but it may be that those who have suffered the tragedy of this bug will consider hundreds of hours played wasted.
Diablo IV Is Becoming a Big Hit With Fans and Critics Alike, but Patches Are Still an Issue in Gaming
The Diablo IV title is becoming a massive hit with both critics and audiences alike, however it continues to raise an ever growing issue of post-game patch work. Blizzard is now praising the success of the game and touting the title as its’ fastest selling title in the developer’s history, but issues still remain. This definitely says something about the current state of the gaming industry and what gamers are growing to expect out of AAA titles. It has now become common place to patch games months after they release, even if game breaking bugs or hardcore disappointments are part of the problem. There is no more motivation for developers to release a complete game, if it means making money at the front and fixing issues on the back end.
If you have been a fan of Cyberpunk 2077, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, or now Diablo IV, you have probably come to expect your games to require patches. While patch work is a great tool for developers to fix mistakes that might not have been noticed in beta, they cannot be a solution for greed. It is important for gamers in these fanbases to request changes in the industry if we ever expect to see mostly complete games released. Although it appears much of the Diablo IV patch work is relatively minor, it probably feels much greater for those hardcore players who lost everything. Unfortunately, only time can tell whether a new AAA game is going to be defeated by an unreasonable amount of repairs.
