Will Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow be Sasha Calle’s New Film?
At the start of the year, studio head James Gunn announced a legion of new films and shows that will be a part of the revamped DC. Among projects like Superman: Legacy and Batman: The Brave and the Bold which will comprise DCU Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, too, will be a part of it. And Sasha Calle has her eyes set on the prize.
In a new interview with EW, Calle, 27, couldn’t stop gushing about the character and her endless love of the same. “I hope to continue playing Supergirl,” the Daytime Emmy nominee said. “I love her deeply! And I think that [The Flash] is really a runway to a bigger story for her.”
Singing high praise for Tom King’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, she then admitted that she’d want nothing more than to continue depicting the character in the future. While she didn’t dwell on whether that meant playing Supergirl in the upcoming comic book adaptation, she might as well have announced her new DCU project.
“I feel like this is a runway to a bigger story. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, by Tom King, is an incredible comic. I love it. I think it’s so cool. So yeah, I would hope to continue. I hope to continue playing Supergirl for sure.”
New movie alert?
All We Know About Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
With Andy Muschietti’s The Flash marking her feature film debut, Calle has naturally been excited for the audience to see her rendition of a “bad*ss” Supergirl. Given the appeal of the character paired with the high of working with such a powerful and renowned franchise, it’s not surprising for her to want to reprise the role in future projects.
As for adapting Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow into a film, there have been no details regarding the cast or plot, just that it’s going to be a “big science-fiction epic film,” as per what Gunn said. He also mentioned how Supergirl’s character in the upcoming movie is going to be in stark contrast with Superman “who was sent to Earth” and had a healthy and loving relationship with his parents.
“In this story, she is a character who was raised on a chunk of Krypton. She watched everybody around her perish in some terrible way, so she’s a much more jaded character,” the 56-year-old writer/director said at the time.
No release date has been attached to the film.
The Flash hits theatres on June 16, 2023.
