Did you know that X-Men’s Storm once held a powerful hammer, and she even became Marvel’s very own Goddess of Thunder? Yes, she even wielded Thor’s hammer, the Mjolnir!
It was one of the most epic scenes in Marvel Comics when the mutant used Thor’s Mjolnir to destroy her own hammer, the Stormcaster. Indeed, Ororo Munroe is one of the most powerful mutants.
X-Men’s Storm And Her Enchanted Hammer
Stormcaster first appeared in Marvel Comics’ X-Men: Annual #9. The X-Men landed on Asgard, and Loki attempted to manipulate Storm. The god of mischief created an enchanted hammer similar to Thor’s and offered it to her. In the end, she realized that she was being used and that the hammer is actually manipulating her powers.
In the Stormfront issue of X-Men: To Serve and Protect #3, Storm touched the enchanted hammer and transformed into the Goddess of Thunder. Thor tried to smash Stormcaster to break its hold on her. Many attempts were unsuccessful, and in the end, Thor convinced her to hold the Mjolnir, and they swung it together. The enchanted hammer was ultimately destroyed, setting the mutant free from its powers.
Is She Worthy Of The Hammer?
This scene is one of the most spectacular events in Marvel Comics. It revealed another hero worthy of the Mjolnir. But, every positive thing has its negative counterpart. Fans are quite doubtful about her worthiness because she did not carry it alone. Others would assume that she is actually capable since she managed to wield another powerful hammer. Whatever the verdict is, the mutant’s reputation as a superhero is enough proof of her worthiness.
Loki’s failed attempt to control the X-Men provided an opportunity to showcase Munroe’s hidden powers as she turned into the Goddess of Thunder. Now, fans can assume that she can take up the mantle if ever Thor gets defeated or decides to abandon his duty.
