Steven Spielberg Thinks What Tom Cruise Did Was Normal

Hollywood celebrities have been often known to keep their love life private and reveal it to the world only after it has been confirmed. The recent in-house marriage of Chris Evans to his girlfriend Alba Baptista attests to the above statement and for good reason too!

Tom Cruise, back in 2005, made a very romantic gesture for his then-lover Katie Holmes. Although they married in 2006, the actor had already decided that he was going to marry her and he was quite happy to tell the world. In 2005, the Top Gun actor sat down for an interview on The Oprah Winfrey Show to talk about his life. When asked a question about Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise did the sweetest thing anyone could imagine.

Cruise jumped on the couch while professing his dear love to Katie Holmes during that interview. The incident stirred quite a lot of controversy for the actor since media outlets and magazines did not take kindly to the incident! His dear friend Steven Spielberg was quick to comment on the whole situation in an interview on Newsweek (via CNN).

“Not at Tom, but at the press for making such a big deal out of a kind of small thing. Tom lost his cool because he was deliriously happy, and now he was being punished for his public display of happiness,”

The director stated that this wasn’t the first time something like this had happened since Tom Cruise had done a very similar thing when he was alone with the director!

After the controversial incident, Cruise became an opaque wall that showed no real emotions or feelings in an interview. Steven Spielberg supported the actor by stating to Newsweek (via CNN) that Hollywood essentially punished the Mission: Impossible star for being true to his soul.

“What Tom did on Oprah was exactly what Tom did with me when he first told me about Katie Holmes. But the press didn’t like the way Tom bared his soul,”

Cruise went on to marry Katie Holmes in 2006 and their marriage lasted a total of 7 years before their divorce in 2012. The couple had welcomed a daughter, Suri Cruise, who is in the care of Katie Holmes.
