Steven Spielberg is one of the most popular and important directors, producers, and screenwriters of all time. He has countless classics including movies like Jaws, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Schindler’s List, and Jurassic Park, which have been directed by him. Spielberg is one of the highest-grossing directors of all time thanks to his films and his projects have earned over $10 billion globally.
Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks came together to produce one of the best miniseries ever made, Band of Brothers. But despite of the show receiving great praise from everyone, it was crowded with controversial topics and arguments. The show also served as a base for actors like Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender as they gained immense fame and recognition after their stars in the show.
Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks’ Fuss Over Band of Brothers
Band of Brothers faced some heavy criticism in the UK because the show failed to emphasize the contributions of British soldiers during World War II. The main focus of the show was on the American soldiers but focusing on British soldiers would have increased the size of the cast, which was already huge due to the series’ depiction of a sizable company of soldiers.
As both Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks were the producers of the show and they both were big names, they received a lot of criticism and harsh comments from the UK and its residents. Despite the show being one of the most successful TV shows ever made with an IMDb rating of 9.4/10, they were in hot waters.
Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender’s Rise In the Industry
Tom Hardy delivered a splendid performance in Band of Brothers and due to his portrayal as John A. Janovec he was offered multiple movie and TV show roles. He was immediately cast in Black Hawk Dawn and other big blockbuster movies and franchises. He was drafted in blockbuster projects like Inception, Dunkirk, Venom, The Dark Knight Rises, etc. So it is fair to say that this show acted as a starting ground for many young actors.
Just like Hardy, Michael Fassbender was also one of those actors whose Hollywood career took a steep turn for the best after his star in Band of Brothers as Technical Sergeant Burton Christenson. He was later drafted in many movies and shows but was most famously known for his star as Erik Lehnsherr aka Magneto in MCU’s X-Men franchise.
