It’s no surprise as we get closer to Disney D23 next month, we’re getting the odd little leak about the films, games, and more that are going to potentially be featured. Twitter followers of industry insider Jeff Grubbs were treated to some news about the upcoming sequel Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and its expanding universe.
The official Star Wars Twitter account announced that the Star Wars Jedi universe will be expanding its universe with two new books, which is exciting news in and of itself for those that can’t get enough of Cal Kestis and his Star Wars story.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
On the back of that tweet, Grubb decided to announce/leak some additional information. The first bit is that one of the two books that fill the narrative gap between the first and second game releases this coming March.
Immediately following that, he also said that the game would be released in the same month, meaning March is going to be a huge month for Star Wars fans, with plenty of new media to indulge in.
Grubb has been right with plenty of his leaks and speculation before, especially Star Wars and EA-related things, for example, the announcement of their Star Wars: Squadrons, long before it was officially showcased, the news that EA Play and Gamepass were going to merge and much more. With his past record, the fans are inclined to believe this, but as we all know, six months in the game industry is a massive amount of time for things to crop up and delays to occur.
Taking Their Time
If it comes out in March 2023 as Jeff Grubb suggests, it’ll have been three and a half years since the first game, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Considerably longer than the average franchise release from EA, it bodes well that hopefully, the game will arrive to us relatively polished and in a state to be enjoyed as much as the first.
Whilst the first game was well received by fans, it’s easy to see why there’s plenty that could be improved upon in the sequel. The first had five or six planets with relatively linear maps, especially the atrocious and well hated Dathomir map, and whilst the sequel will no doubt be bigger and better, I doubt we’ll be seeing an introduction to an open world, and I’d be shocked if Respawn got rid of the excellent gameplay, and stuck with their Souls-like version hopefully.
Story-wise not much is known about the sequel yet, other than it’s set five years after the end of the first game, and only Cal Kestis and BD-1 are confirmed to return, with no mention of the supporting characters from the first as of yet.
With Disney D23 fast approaching, we’ll hopefully be finding out more about the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor game, and with it, I have no doubt excitement will begin to build for the fans.
