Filoni’s views, however, have sparked numerous debates amongst fans of the acclaimed pop culture phenomenon. These enthusiasts have taken to Twitter to engage in subsequent discourse.
Filoni, who’s often deemed the “Lucas encyclopedia”, was a devoted Star Wars enjoyer even before he was offered a job by George Lucas to work on an animated series for the franchise. Therefore, as someone who happens to be acquainted with the phenomenon as both a fan and a creative professional, it is no surprise that Dave Filoni has his own set of opinions about the over-arching endeavor with its constantly expanding narrative.
While some may share the same views as him, other connoisseurs of Star Wars have, however, agreed to disagree with the acclaimed director on the answer to who’s the greatest Jedi of all time.
Dave Filoni Reveals Who’s The Greatest Jedi Of All Time
Filoni, who is credited for being the showrunner and lead producer of the upcoming action-adventure series Ahsoka, shed light on who he thinks is the franchise’s best Jedi. In a recently released video titled Journey to Ahsoka, which chronicles a behind-the-scenes look into leading actress Rosario Dawson’s experiences of becoming Ahsoka, Dave Filoni commented the following:
“We are telling the story of this character who’s been trained by the greatest Jedi of all time in Anakin Skywalker.”
The director’s statement raised several questions amongst fans, who did not expect this revelation. While most netizens echoed Filoni’s sentiments, a few name-dropped other important characters within the franchise as suitable contenders for the prestigious title. As is the case with most heavily-dissected pieces of fiction, the definitive answer to the question of who’s the greatest Jedi remains debatable.
Dave Filoni’s Comment Has Caused A Debate Amongst Fans
Anakin Skywalker, within the narrative of the uber-successful franchise, was the Chosen One, meant to bring forth balance to the Force. Therefore, possessing over 20,000 midi-chlorians in his blood, supporters of the character deem him exceptionally strong, powerful, and the greatest Jedi of all time. On Twitter, some pointed out how Dave Filoni’s statement encapsulated the essence of what Anakin is supposed to represent, especially in the Star Wars saga.
Other fans disagreed. In their perspective, the extent of one’s power should not be the only qualifying metric to determine the best Jedi in the franchise. Anakin had the potential to be the greatest. However, failing to live up to the Jedi’s ideals and being unable to resist the dark side’s allure obstructs his character from being called the “greatest Jedi.”
Many believe that the title should instead be given to other pivotal characters, mainly Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, or Yoda.
Take a look at some of the fans’ tweets:
Opinions on the matter remain split. Dave Filoni’s statement, while subjective, is a reflection of the views he harbors toward the multimedia franchise. Barring the debate, it is important to note that fans and long-time audiences of Star Wars are entitled to their respective ways of thinking. Therefore, to some, Anakin’s legacy within the franchise remains that of the greatest Jedi of all time.
