It seems like Paramount Studios is ready to create Michelle Yeoh’s return to the franchise a reality. However, with a little twist. It was initially believed that Yeoh will return as Emperor Philippa Georgiou for a Section 31 TV series, however, it has been revealed that it will be a feature-length film.
The studios obviously would love to make a project revolving around Michelle Yeoh’s character given the boost in the actress’ popularity after she won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her work in the Oscar-winning movie, Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Paramount Pictures is all set to release Star Trek: Section 31
Paramount Pictures have previously announced that actress Michelle Yeoh is all set to return to the Star Trek franchise as Emperor Philippa Georgiou for a movie called, Star Trek: Section 31. It was initially planned to release as a show but now it has been revealed that it will be a film that will follow Yeoh’s character as she joins a secret division of Starfleet designed to quietly protect the United Federation of Planets while also coming to terms with the sins of her past. The release date is yet to be announced and the production is all set to begin in 2023.
The actress announced the project herself
Michelle Yeoh, who recently won an Academy Award for Best Actress, announced the project herself,
“I’m beyond thrilled to return to my Star Trek family and to the role I’ve loved for so long. Section 31 has been near and dear to my heart since I began the journey of playing Philippa all the way back when this new golden age of Star Trek launched. To see her finally get her moment is a dream come true in a year that’s shown me the incredible power of never giving up on your dreams. We can’t wait to share what’s in store for you, and until then: live long and prosper (unless Emperor Georgiou decrees otherwise)!”
The actress first played the iconic role in the first season of Star Trek: Discovery in 2017 and continued for 24 episodes through 2020.
Michelle Yeoh won an Oscar
The past few months have been like a fairytale for Michelle Yeoh. Last month, she won the Academy Award for best actress for her work in the 2022 movie Everything Everywhere All at Once. She became the first Asian person to win this award.
Not just that, she also bagged wins at the SAG Awards, Independent Spirit Awards, and the Golden Globes for her work in the film. She has also starred in other hits like Crazy Rich Asians, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Memoirs Of A Geisha, Tomorrow Never Dies, and Sunshine.
