Season 1 of the hit K-series Squid Game had fans hooked. With a simple yet complicated premise of luring debt-ridden individuals to play six children’s games; prize money of 45.6 billion Won for the winner, and ‘death’ for the losers, the show made waves all around the world. Red and green lights don’t look the same now, thanks to the genius of director Hwang Dong-Hyuk.
Can anyone imagine that this masterful show had been rejected since 2009 for its gruesome and violent script? Thanks to Netflix, the director got his chance after almost 11 years in 2021. Now, he is coming back strong for a second season.
Netflix Loves Listening To Fans
With ‘Tudum’, their online fan convention for 2023, Netflix flexed their upcoming films and shows that people have enjoyed beyond expectations. But not just that, they also love to listen to their loyal fanbase.
The first season of Squid Game saw immense love for the story, but the lack of more female players in the show caught them off-guard. The initial cast has been revealed along with more brilliant actors joining in.
Gong Yoo, Lee Byung-hun, Lee-Jung-jae, and Wi Ha-jun are coming back for the second outing, along with Park Sung-hoon, Kang Ha-neul, Yim Si-wan, and Yang Dong-geun as new entrants.
They recently announced eight new cast members – Jo Yu-ri, Lee Jin-uk, Roh Jaw-won, Park Gyu-young, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, and Won Ji-an.
We can definitely see more female actors now.
Where Are We Going With Squid Game Season 2
Season 1 ended with a hollow victory for Gi-hun. Sang-woo plunged the knife into his own neck to make way for Gi-hun to win. He wanted Gi-hun to take care of his mother after his death. With all the money that he got, he wanted to lead a normal life away from Korea. But that’s not how the story is supposed to go.
Picking up where it left off, we could see Gi-Hun taking down the evil people behind the deadly game. Also, the frontman Jun-ho who won the 28th Squid Game was shot in the shoulder by his own brother In-ho for his duty. It was later revealed that Jun-ho survived the cliff fall. We may also get to see their story unravel.
As we have eight new cast members on board, we may also get to see them play the game in some capacity. Fans on the internet are even going out on a limb to say that Gi-hun with his habit of gambling may enter the game again with the intention to win more money.
All this remains to be seen as season 2 of Squid Game arrives in 2024. Filming begins in July this year.
