The first movie was so successful that a sequel, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, was released in 2004. Very quickly, the franchise became a fan-favorite.
The second movie seemingly put an end to Mia Thermopolis’ (Anne Hathaway) story. However, Hathaway confirmed in 2019 that they are working on a third film and now finally, fans have some information about it, which is rumored to be featuring actress Zendaya.

Amidst rumors about a third Prince Diaries film, a source has leaked some information regarding the movie’s plot on Twitter/X. The source revealed that actress Zendaya will now be the face of the franchise,
“PRINCESS DIARIES 3 is about a gen Z biracial teen who discovers that Mia Thermopolis is her half-sister, she moves to Genovia to live amongst the royals. Anne Hathaway will return as Mia who is now queen of Genovia. Zendaya eyed for the new princess.”
It would certainly be exciting to see Zendaya be a part of the beloved Princess Diaries franchise alongside iconic stars like Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews.

There is a lot of pressure as the franchise is being revived after roughly 20 years. A lot of people grew up watching both parts of The Princess Diaries movies and they even became comfort movies for many, so it is very important that the creators don’t butcher it.
It is too early to be forming any opinions as the plot is still not confirmed. A source also leaked that a new princess character will be introduced, which according to the insider, will be of mixed race.
Anne Hathaway is excited about the third film
Hathaway gained significant popularity after playing the role of Mia Thermopolis in the franchise. In fact, the actress is so deeply connected to the franchise that she is doing everything she can to revive it. In a past interview, the actress talked about the third installment,
“I would more than entertain it. I’m pulling for it. If there’s any way to get Julie Andrews involved, I think we would make it work. We would go to where she was put a green screen behind her and just make it happen.”
Julia Andrews, who is 87 now, has stated in the past that she is not sure about her return to the franchise, mainly because of her age but somehow if they make it work, it will be a big day for the die-hard fans of the franchise.
