The illustrations were drawn by Evan Stanley, known for her work on the Sonic Archie Comics and the Sonic IDW Publishing comics. Her work has been praised by the Sonic community as she has amassed over 60,000 followers on Twitter/X.

Stanley teased this Sonic Frontiers trailer a few months ago in July with an image of Knuckles the Echidna. She drew inspiration from the Sonic Storybook Series duology, Sonic and the Secret Rings and Sonic and the Black Knight. Suffice to say, fans praised Stanley for her work in the Sonic Frontiers Into the Horizon trailer.

What To Expect: Sonic Frontiers Final Horizon Update

From the official Sonic the Hedgehog website, the Sonic Frontiers Final Horizon Update takes place before the final battle on Ouranos Island. There’s the possibility of transforming the Cyber Corruption into a new, previously untapped power source. Sonic and friends are now searching for the Chaos Emeralds to win the final battle in this new story scenario.

From the Sonic Frontiers Final Horizon Teaser, could this be Sonic’s new untapped power?

Fans can now play as Tails, Amy, and Knuckles in Sonic Frontiers. The last time these characters were playable was in a 3D Sonic game by Sonic Team was in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), almost 17 years ago.

If you want to get technical, the trio were playable in Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric (9 years ago) but the game was not developed by Sonic Team and was overall poorly received (32 Metascore).

Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) was not praised highly either (46 Metascore) which is why Sonic Team waited nearly two decades to allow Tails, Amy, and Knuckles to be playable in a Sonic game.

Sonic Frontiers is changing that and should hopefully deliver on fan expectations. No gameplay has been shown so far, so expect to go into the Sonic Frontiers Final Horizon Update blind.

Sonic’s friends are now playable in Sonic Frontiers’ Final Horizon Update

If you’re excited for the Sonic Frontiers Final Horizon Update, it will launch on September 28 for free. No additional cost to experience the new story and the ability to play as Tails, Amy, and Knuckles in Sonic Frontiers.
