The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) continues its unstoppable march with the highly anticipated Captain America movie titled Brave New World, formerly known as New World Order. This upcoming installment marks the debut of Anthony Mackie’s portrayal of the iconic Captain America, while also featuring the esteemed presence of Harrison Ford, known for his roles in Star Wars and Indiana Jones.
While talking about the upcoming installment, Mackie recently shared his experience working alongside Ford, expressing admiration for the legendary actor’s enthusiasm and camaraderie, and his unexpected behavior on the sets.
Anthony Mackie opened up about Harrison Ford’s behavior on the sets
Details surrounding the plot of Captain America: Brave New World remain tightly guarded, fueling fan speculation about what thrilling surprises the film holds. However, it’s known that the cast is a star-studded ensemble, with Harrison Ford taking on the role of Thunderbolt Ross following the passing of actor William Hurt.
In an interview with The Wrap, Anthony Mackie offered insights into his collaboration with Ford, praising the actor’s amiable and relaxed demeanor on set. Contrary to Ford’s occasional portrayal as indifferent towards the Star Wars franchise, his demeanor on the Captain America 4 set was anything but disagreeable to deal with.
“Harrison was the f*cking man, dude. It’s funny, he shows up and everybody is kind of, you know, you don’t know what to do with Harrison Ford. Like, ‘Somebody get Harrison water,’ but he wasn’t that at all.”
Mackie expressed his surprise at Ford’s light-hearted and enthusiastic attitude. He noted Ford’s excitement to be a part of the MCU universe even at the age of 80, a sentiment that illuminated the privilege and joy of bringing beloved characters to life.
“I was surprised how light-hearted and easy he was, how excited he was to be a part of it. For him to be in this profession for so many years and to see him at 80 excited to be a part of this universe was really dope and it put things in perspective how lucky we are, how lucky I am to be a part of it and bring these characters to life. So we had a good time.“
Mackie’s words reflect the bond that the cast and crew forged while working on the film. However, this bond once landed the new Captain America in trouble.
When Anthony Mackie accidentally fueled fan speculations
Anthony Mackie’s admiration for Harrison Ford extended beyond his on-set demeanor. The actor shared a photo of the two on set, inadvertently sparking fan theories. While taking a closer look at the picture, Ford can be seen wearing a set of tattered pants, fueling the speculations of his character potentially turning into Red Hulk.

Mackie later clarified the speculation by stating that they were actually his “work pants from working in the yard”, but the accidental buzz further stoked the excitement surrounding their collaboration. Audiences are eagerly anticipating how their on-screen chemistry will translate to the highly anticipated Captain America sequel.
Scheduled to hit theaters on July 26th, 2024, Captain America: Brave New World promises to be another thrilling addition to the MCU, offering a fresh perspective on the beloved superhero legacy. Speculations around Ford’s characters have intensified, as news of Liv Tyler’s return as Betty Ross has further reiterated the speculation about the potential inclusion of Red Hulk in the storyline.
