Sofía Vergara is one of the most popular actresses after rising to international prominence with her role in Modern Family. In the ABC series, she played the role of Gloria Delgado-Pritchett and became a fan favorite in no time along with her co-star Ed O’Neill who played her on-screen husband Jay Pritchett. The on-screen couple boasts a huge number of television show fans who love their bond and supported them wholeheartedly throughout the 11 seasons. However, this was all a surprise for Sofía Vergara who never thought of having such a good experience in the show.
If the 51-year-old Colombian diva’s words are to be believed then it is evident that Vergara didn’t expect such an experience with Ed O’Neill in the show. Recently when she talked with Kevin Hart on his show, she opened up to the audience that the age difference between the on-screen Pritchett couple made her worried that she would get bored on set.
Sofía Vergara was not sure about she would feel with Ed O’Neill
The ardent fans of Modern Family are often seen speaking highly about the relationship between Gloria and Jay. They are hailed as one of the best couples seen on television shows and have continued to garner praise for the 11 long seasons it ran. However, before Sofía Vergara met Ed O’Neill, she had a completely different perspective.
According to the former wife of Joe Manganiello in the Hart to Heart podcast, she was worried that she would be “stuck” with the elder actor and might get bored soon. But she was completely surprised when Ed O’Neill proved her wrong and the two formed an amazing friendship while working on the series.
“I used to watch Ed O’Neill when I was in Colombia so it was like I couldn’t believe it, and I was married to Ed O’Neill who was like 20 years older than me, I’m like, Oh my God! I remember the first that they told me he was going to be, you know, my husband, and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I am going to be stuck with the old guy in the set for hours and it’s going to be so boring’ and it was complete opposite”

It is not the first time Sofía Vergara has praised her co-star so much as similar emotions were also seen during her conversation with Ellen DeGeneres in The Ellen Show. She admitted that “I love going to work with him”. On the other side, O’Neill has also praised the America’s Got Talent judge for her equally praiseworthy humor along with her beauty.
Sofía Vergara will be next seen in a completely different avatar
Despite being known for her works in humor-filled and light-hearted projects, Sofía Vergara is going to be seen in a completely new avatar in his upcoming Netflix crime-drama series Griselda centered on the real-life character of Griselda Blanco. The Modern Family actress who made it to a lot of headlines recently for her separation from Joe Manganiello is all set to portray something like never before.
As per producer Eric Newman, the similarities between the backgrounds of the actress and Blanco will be the driving force of the series. According to Yahoo!, Newman also stated how the transition from her light-hearted performances to a new type of dark character will make sure to surprise the audiences.
“What will really surprise viewers is how she encompasses this complete darkness in her performance — a far cry from the beloved comedic star she’s known as. Finding her way to that place was her great challenge on this show, and seeing the successful transformation was a privilege.”
Griselda Blanco was indeed a strong and ruthless character who ruled the underworld and it will be exciting to watch how Vergara pulls this off in the series which is set to arrive on Netflix sometime in January 2024.
Modern Family can be streamed on Hulu and Peacock.
