Skyrim may be over a decade old, but fans are still discovering new things in Bethesda’s open-world masterpiece. Recently, a player found out something very peculiar about the game’s NPC interactions, more specifically, an action done by the player’s adopted child.
For those not in the know, Skyrim allows you to adopt children. This feature was introduced in the game’s DLC, Hearthfire, as fans requested Bethesda include an adoption system since you can already marry in the game. So basically, you can buy a house, then get married, and even adopt a child. Running the whole family is a very popular feature in the game, but one player was shown the dark side of all this.

Skyrim Player’s Adopted Child Kills Pet Fox
Yes, you read that right. Reddit user CrackingChest shared a horrifying screenshot of their adopted child who just committed an atrocious act. The user was downstairs in his home, storing weapons, when they suddenly heard fighting noises. They quickly rushed to see what was going on, only to find their adopted child, Sofie, had just killed their pet fox.
Sofie was standing next to the fox’s dead body that was laying underneath a bed. Right in front of the child were huge splats of blood. The player tried to interact with her, but she didn’t comment on the situation. But she was holding an enchanted dagger in her hand, which she probably used to kill the animal.

What Could’ve Triggered This?
Though there is no concrete answer, a user on the same Reddit thread pointed out that she may have been taking some practice swings with her dagger when, all of a sudden, the fox walked in front of her, triggering combat. Thus, Sofie killed it. The community seems to agree with this take, as the comment has the most upvotes on the thread. It is a shame for the player, as they seemed to really like their pet fox.
The ability to bring home foxes as pets, similar to adopting children, was also added in Skyrim’s Hearthfire DLC. Foxes can be kept as pets, but their main purpose is to find loot. The player probably kept it just as pet, but it is sad to see it go nonetheless.
Players do have the option to kill their pets, but this is the first time that an adopted child has done it. Perhaps Bethesda programmed it themselves, seeing as both the option to adopt children and bring home pets were added in the same DLC. For all we know, it may as well have just been a glitch. But it seems that there may be more than meets the eye with children in Skyrim.
What do you think happened to the fox? Did the child really kill it? Let us know in the comments!
