Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio won Best Animated Feature Film at the Critics Choice Award on January 15, 2023, making it the movie’s second award. Pinocchio won its first award at the Golden Globe Awards 2023 for the same category.
In response to Pinocchio winning the award, many people have taken to social media to share their opinions. Although most of them congratulated Pinocchio for its win, there were some who disagreed and stated that Puss in Boots: The Last Wish should have been the winner.
Pinocchio’s second win of the season
On the 28th Critics Choice Award held in Los Angeles, California Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio wins the Best Animated Film Award. Though there were many other nominees under the same category like Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, Turning Red, and Wendell & Wild, GDT’s movie has done it for the second time.
After receiving the award at the Golden Globes, del Toro said, “Animation is cinema, not a genre for kids; it’s a medium”. Many fans have also appreciated the movie, an award-winning worthy, a “masterpiece” as many say. Pinocchio was the second most-watched movie on Netflix within a week after its release and was also placed on the Top 10 list. In its second week, it achieved record performance as it became Netflix’s most-watched movie.
It is also being said that Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio is among the potential contenders for winning the 95th Academy Awards, the Oscars for Best Animated Film. GDT revealed that though the movie achieved huge success, for the last 10 years Pinocchio was being rejected by every major studio as they couldn’t see the movie achieving success.
Disappointed Fan Reactions to Pinocchio’s Critics Choice Win
After Pinocchio’s win in the recent Award show, many fans took on themselves to post their opinion about how disappointed they were. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish did not win an award even though it has been nominated twice, once for the Golden Globe Award show and again for the Critics Choice Award. Though Puss in Boots: The Last Wish was a fabulous movie, good enough to be nominated for the Golden Globes it has been overshadowed by GDT’s masterpiece twice.
In the days to come, critic groups will also be finalizing their awards lists for the Academy Awards to release their list of nominations for 2022’s cinematic achievements in multiple fields. So only after they release their nominations, we can know if Puss in Boots: The Last Wish has a chance of winning one of the biggest awards a movie could receive. The Oscars, 95th Academy Awards will be held on March 12, 2023.
