Michelle Yeoh Stands With Andrea Riseborough Amidst Backlash
Starring in a $27,000 grosser movie, Andrea Riseborough gave her performance in the indie movie To Leslie. The movie went unnoticed by millions of people until its lead actress was picked up for an Oscar nomination in the “Best Actress” category.
Although it’s not unusual, the abnormality in this case, however, was that Andrea Riseborough was nominated at the last moment possible. With allegations of blackmailing or paying money to be nominated, Andrea Riseborough and the Oscars had been getting flak from the people. Amidst these allegations and backlashes, Michelle Yeoh decided to side with Riseborough.
“The Academy has always prided itself on having regulations and playing by the rules and if [cheating them] was so easy it would have done before. We are always evolving on how to protect our integrity and I have great faith we will continue to do that.”
The actress further remarked about the last-minute nomination was at the expense of Viola Davis and Danielle Deadwyler.
“I love [Viola and Danielle] to the extreme and wish we were all getting Oscars but it’s tough,” she added. “It took me 40 years to even get a nomination. Every single actor and actress puts their heart and soul into these movies and you don’t necessarily start thinking you are going to get nominated. The stories we want to tell are more important.”
With such an impressive cast and boasting all these Oscar nominations, Everything Everywhere All At Once is available to stream on Showtime.
